Design is all around us! One of my favorite ways to design is decor. Now, it’s easy to design without a budget but the real art/challenge comes to play when you design while trying to spend as little money as possible! This is when it becomes fun!
Just recently my roommate and I moved into a smaller apartment, my new room came with a inset desk area. I couldn’t wait to design this space! Quickly, I realized I wanted to make it my very own office/work station/spot to create!
Using some old black frames and a collection of photos, which I had printed at Wal-Mart, I put together a fun wall display. These photos tell a bit of who I am and what I enjoy! Always add in something fun and different to throw off the uniformity of your display. For this I chose a vintage gold frame, my brother had given me a few Christmas’ ago!
It is also always a great idea to through in a splash of color. My yellow lamp was perfect for the task! This I found at a Good Will for only $7!! Such a fun find and perfect addition to the space. It supplies a gallery lighting for the photos on the wall and a great height element to the area.
Always add an element of vintage! There is nothing better than something old to add some character to your space. This fan was given to me from my mom! Such a fun addition. The old tin I found at a garage sale for .25 cents! And, instead of using the typical book shelf to store books – I decided to stack them in the corner, which helps balance out the height of the lamp on the other side.
I wish I could say my iMac I found at a great cost too, but I can’t. This one I had to spend some $$$ on, but I have never regretted this investment! After 6 years, I have yet to have anything happen to it and it still runs like a champ!
This space has been a favorite of mine. It’s interesting how much more I have wanted to create and design when I finally had a space to create and design in, that was in itself a space of art! I encourage you all, if you are having a hard time getting motivated, feeling creative or wanting to work, try working on your space! Design an area that’s specific to you, simple, clean and inspiring!
-happy designing
